Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili said Aug. 15 that he has finally signed the six-point cease-fire agreement between Russia, Georgia and the latter’s two secessionist regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, which was composed by French President Nicolas Sarkozy. The only change to the plan — according to Georgia — is that one of the points has been deleted, though it was something Moscow was willing to give up anyway.

Saakashvili had originally agreed to (but not signed) the accord when Sarkozy met with him on Aug. 12 before the French leader went to Moscow to meet with Russian President Dmitri Medvedev.
